Base filtering engine or BFE is Windows service which is vital for NetLimiter 4's functionality. If it does not run then NetLimiter 4 can not work properly. Various important Windows applications including Windows Firewall are also dependent on BFE so it is highly recommended that you keep it running.

If you receive a notification that BFE is not running(for any reason), you should start it manually to keep your machine protected and NetLimiter 4 working...

How to start BFE service

  1. Open Windows Services console by pressing Win+R (or Win+Q), typing services.msc and pressing Enter.
  2. Locate a service named Base Filtering Engine, right-click it and select Start.
  3. If BFE does not start, you should run Windows Firewall diagnostic which could find and repair problems with BFE.
